The U.S. government has imposed sanctions on six leaders of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) in Mexico, the Treasury Department said in a press release Thursday.

“Today, the United States Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated six individuals under Executive Order 14059 for their support of or actions on behalf of CJNG, a violent organization based in Mexico which traffics a significant proportion of fentanyl and other deadly drugs entering the United States,” the statement said.
The sanctions follow a collaboration between the Treasury Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) with the support of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Mexican government, according to the statement.
Among the six people sanctioned are Severo Flores Mendoza, police chief of Ameca in Jalisco; Julio Cesar Montero Pinzon, allegedly a member of a violent CJNG law enforcement group based in Puerto Vallarta; and Montero Pinzon, the statement added.
The US government has also sanctioned Saul Alejandro Rincon Godoy, a senior CJNG official who recently died in Puerto Vallarta following a confrontation with Mexican authorities, the statement said.
