Soft opening of Firepan Korean BBQ today in downtown Silver Spring (really!)

After a false start earlier this week, Firepan Korean BBQ owner Jay Bae said the restaurant is ready to debut in downtown Silver Spring.

The opening of the Korean Firepan barbecue was fraught with pandemic-related delays. The restaurant, located in the former home of Pete’s New Haven Apizza at 962 Wayne Ave. in downtown Silver Spring, had initially targeted a Opening fall 2021, then postponed to January, April, may and august. Montgomery County Board of Licensing commissioners approved Firepan’s liquor license application last year, according to Bethesda Beat.

Firepan’s original location opened in 2019 at Eden Center in Falls Church, Virginia. The restaurant’s location in Woodbridge, Va., the company’s third, officially opened last week.

According to their website, Firepan’s menu offers a varied menu, including meats, seafood, vegetarian selections like kimchi pancakes, and more adventurous options like beef intestines. “No, it’s not the sophisticated people’s choice for Korean barbecue,” said Alice Levitt of Northern Virginia Magazine in her April 12 review. “But when I’m looking to be served by a friendly team willing to encourage some of my most destructive habits, Firepan is my choice.”

Restaurant hours are 3:30 PM to 11 PM Monday through Thursday, 11:30 AM to midnight Friday and Saturday, and 11:30 AM to 11 PM Sunday.

The Firepan opening is the latest in a slate of fall business openings in downtown Silver Spring, including The Breakfast Club, Black Lion Café and Citizens&Culture, as well as Kusshi Sushi and Sashe’s Dominican. Beauty Salon & ICU Beauty Bar recently opened.
