The Silver Stars dance team placed first in State 5A competition at the Stormont Vail Events Center on Friday, November 19
Gathered around the trophy, the Silver Stars celebrate their second state victory. Due to COVID-19, the team competed numerically for the state competition last year and were thrilled to be back in person for their sophomore victory where they received a final score of 94.23 .
The Silver Stars dance team placed first in the State 5A competition at the Stormont Vail Events Center on Friday, November 19, making it their second state title for the second year in a row.
Senior Anna Brazil was thrilled with the results of the competition.
“It was so amazing to win our second state title as a team,” said Brazil. “We all went into the prizes very nervous, so the feeling of winning was so great.”
Crazy about competition, senior Ella Lorfing considered the atmosphere to be her favorite part.
âMy favorite part of the competition was watching all the other dancers and seeing all my friends from different schools,â Lorfing said. “We were so excited and proud of all of our hard work when they announced that we had won.”
According to Brazil, the state competition is divided into three categories: combat song, orchestral dance and performance routine.
âWe compete each element of our routine separately in three different categories. Each element is scored in the preliminary round out of 50 points to create a combined score. The six teams with the highest combined scores can then compete in the final, âBrazil said. âWe are judged on each element of the routine with a separate score sheet. Elements include execution of movement, choreography, overall feel and more.
Lorfing was grateful to her teammates.
“My favorite part about being a Silver Star is that we all support each other so much and we all want the same things,” Lorfing said. “We work so hard and push each other every day to be better and I couldn’t ask for a better girl group by my side for my senior year.”
Similar to Lorfing, Brazil enjoyed the hectic atmosphere.
âI loved the speed of the competition and the competitive atmosphere with all the other high school teams so close,â Brazil said. “After each performance, we would have a few minutes to watch the other teams before getting ready for our next performance.”
