The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are really impressive, but how much will they cost? According to a new rumor, they won’t be very cheap.
GoogleThe Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are set to launch in the coming weeks, and before that, the reported pricing details for the phones were first revealed. Thanks to numerous leaks and confirmation from Google itself, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are both shaping up to be incredible smartphones. They are expected to deliver brand new camera systems, fast refresh rate displays, innovative designs, and the Google Tensor chipset. In other words, they could very well be two of the best Android phones released all year round.
The build-up to the Pixel 6 series has been fascinating to watch. Google announced the two phones in August via Twitter, has been marketing them since then, and even has dummy models on display at its New York flagship store. That’s all you can expect from a phone that’s been fully unveiled. However, Google has yet to confirm pricing or availability information. Fortunately, that may have finally changed.
September 28, YouTube channel This is technology today uploaded a video claiming to reveal the prices, color names and release date of the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. The video does not reveal all of the names of the five colors revealed so far, but it is reported that the black color is “Carbon” and the green one is “Fog”. It’s quite different from the more humorous names used by Google in the past – such as Barely Blue, Oh So Orange, etc. – but it shows that the company may be taking a more mature approach to this year’s release. Another key detail is the release date. Like reports from other sources, This is technology today reiterates that the Pixel 6 series will be up for pre-order on October 19 and officially launch on October 28.
The Pixel 6 will start at € 649 in Europe
And, of course, there are the prices. Starting with the base Pixel 6, This is technology today claims the phone will start at € 649 in Europe – a small jump from the starting price of € 629 for the Pixel 5 last year. It’s hard to convert the Euro to USD based on the leaks alone, but the video suggests the Pixel 6 will sell for $ 799 in the US. Compared to the Pixel 5’s asking price of $ 699, it looks like the base model could be hit by a modest price hike this year.
Where things get even more interesting is with the Pixel 6 Pro. Google’s high-end flagship would cost € 899 for European customers. That’s a $ 250 increase over the Pixel 5, and based on all of the improvements expected with the Pixel 6 Pro, this substantial price increase isn’t hard to imagine. How this will convert to USD is still unclear, but This is technology today thinks Google could charge up to $ 1,099 for buyers in the United States.
While pricing isn’t set in stone until Google announces these details itself, it’s not hard to imagine a world where there’s a $ 799 Pixel 6 and a 1,099 Pixel 6 Pro. $. Unlike previous Pixels, which sidestepped the line between flagship and mid-range, it’s obvious Google wants the Pixel 6 series to be seen as a mainstream flagship. This only happens with a combination of good specs, good design, sufficient marketing, and high prices. Actual numbers are likely to vary at least a bit, but for anyone hoping to buy a Pixel 6 this year, it would be wise to start saving if you haven’t already.
