Ludhiana: STF detects “benami” properties of drug cartel members

During questioning, cartel baron Harminder Singh Randhawa aka Romi Randhawa confessed to STF that he had purchased property in Ludhiana and other towns for members of his gang.

While investigating a drug cartel, the Special Task Force (STF) discovered “benami” properties of smugglers in the city that were purchased with drug money. The STF has identified six of these properties and initiated a process to attach them to the case.

During questioning, cartel baron Harminder Singh Randhawa aka Romi Randhawa admitted that he had purchased property in Ludhiana and other towns for members of his gang. He also bought vehicles for them and promised to cover all the wedding expenses for their family.

The accused also told the STF that they recruited the members by luring them with money and goods.

Although he did not transfer the properties on behalf of the members of his racquet, he allowed them to stay there.

Harminder Singh Randhawa was extradited from Thailand, where he had been in hiding for many years.

Inspector Harbans Singh, head of Ludhiana STF, said one of the main defendants in the drug trafficking case, Tanvir Bedi, is in hiding in Australia.

“The process is already underway for his extradition. A watch circular has already been issued against it. We are also trying to issue an emergency notice against him, ”he added.
