The parliamentary budget session begins on January 29th with President Ram Nath Kovind’s speech before the joint session of the two chambers. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union budget on February 1st.

According to reports, the government is likely to announce an increase in cash support to farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN).
Currently, all farming families across the country receive income support of Rs 6,000 per year in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 every four months.
The government pays cash into their bank accounts in three installments. The first installment is paid between December and March, the second between April and July and the third between August and November.
The government provides income support to land-owning farming families with arable land and those working in related sectors of agriculture, but landless workers do not receive any benefits under the system.
The government has already paid seven installments. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, almost 11 million farmers have benefited from the scheme so far.
