Army Congratulates Soldier-Athlete for Winning Silver Medal at SEAG

MANILA – The Philippine Army (PA) on Thursday congratulated one of its athletes for winning the silver medal in one of the rowing events during the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) in Hanoi , in Vietnam, on May 11.

Private Chris Nievarez and teammate CJ Jasmin captured silver in the lightweight men’s double sculls (rowing) event.

The silver medal win helped the Philippines team collect medals at the biennial regional sports meet.

A total of 21 Army athletes are part of the Philippines team competing in the 31st SEAG.

Army athletes compete in sporting events such as track and field, badminton, basketball, kurash, rowing, sepak takraw, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and chess .

It can be recalled that the Philippines team dominated the 30th edition of the SEAG in 2019 after winning 387 medals, including 149 gold. (NAP)
